Richard M. Marx is a graduate of Stanford University and of the University of California Hastings College of the Law. He was admitted to practice in 1977 and has primarily engaged in the practice of family law since 1980. He has served as a Settlement Master and Pro Tem Judge in San Francisco and as a member of Bench/Bar Settlement Panels in Marin County. Mr. Marx acts as an Arbitrator with the Attorney/Client Fee Dispute Program of the Bar Association of San Francisco. He is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the San Mateo County Bar Association, the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists and The Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. He practices primarily in the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin, Santa Clara and Alameda.

Mr. Marx has been the sole or principal attorney in many cases involving complex issues of law or fact, including the characterization and division of complex marital estates, interstate and international child custody disputes, and child and spousal support disputes involving high income individuals.

Mr. Marx authored the article, “Capital Gains Income and Child Support Calculations” in the Spring 1999 edition of Family Law News, the official publication of the State Bar of California Family Law Section.

Mr. Marx has received awards for Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service in 2010 and 2011 from The Volunteer Legal Services Program of the Bar Association of San Francisco.

Mr. Marx has been certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Family Law Specialist since 1992. Mr. Marx has the highest possible rating (“av”) from Martindale Hubbell legal directory. Mr. Marx has been named by Northern California Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Northern California.
